![]() In 1900, he moved to Mexico City and entered the National Conservatory of Music where he studied piano. During his teenage years, he played the organ at the Church of San Diego in Aguascalientes and wrote several small keyboard pieces. However Ponce was considered to the musical prodigy. His parents didn’t get any particular musical education though his mother motivated some of the children to study the piano. His guitar works play a significant role in guitar repertoire, although he wasn’t a guitarist himself. On December 8, 2019, we celebrate what would be the 137th birthday of the amazing Mexican composer Manuel Maria Ponce (1882–1948)!
